I put a list together of ideas of things to do with our teenagers. Lots of ideas out there for smaller kids but what about our teens? If it was up to mine they would be playing video games the whole time BUT I have a different plan for them! These are all random ideas, no order to the madness. DIY wood 3 Tier Tray

This is one of my favorite quick DIY's. We have a nice size kitchen island and I needed something that would look good to scale and fun to decorate. This tray is probably bigger in person than in the photos.

I decided to stain it to match my vent hood and bar stools. You could also spray paint it or try a different stain. This just happens to be the stain I use throughout my whole house on all my wood projects.

One thing I need to point out is the top tier tray. I did not link it because I found a better one on amazon for a couple bucks cheaper. I ordered it and will be replacing the one in the photo. When I bought the supplies at lowe's before being quarantined, that was all they had.

1. Top Tier
2. Middle tier
3. Bottom tier
4. Galvanized pieces
5. My favorite stain
6. 3/4" wood screws  (make sure they are black)

The galvanized kit I have linked comes with screws. I'm not sure how long they are but guessing they are too long. So make sure your screws wont be goin…

DIY Chicken Coop Condo

Well hello, and thank you for taking the time to read my blog post on how we built this beautiful chicken condo.

If you are an avid DIY'er then you know that projects always take longer than you estimate. With that being said there is defiantly something special about taking a space like our side yard and creating something beautiful with your own two hands. I have been dreaming of this chicken coop since the day we bought our house. I am very grateful to have a husband who was willing to build this for our three little ladies...Pearl, Opal, & Ruby.

Here is our side yard that faces east.

I thought long and hard about this written form tutorial and this was such a long project I thought this DIY would be better in video form. There are so many details we learned along the way that I thought it would be best to link you to the videos I made on how we created this chicken coop.  We had no plans, I just took some inspiration from pinterest and winged it. Thats kinda how my husband…

The EASY formula to space your board & batten wall

Bad at Math? Me too! I spent a lot of time looking on the internet for an easy formula to help space your boards evenly on any wall. I only found one and it was so confusing, I couldn't make it work.  So, with some help, I figured it out!
What's nice about this project is it's very inexpensive. The total cost including the new baseboard was $120. Make sure you read this entire tutorial before starting. I have a lot of very important steps you don't want to skip.
This wall (the one to the left in the photo below) has been through a lot over the past year. Before we get to the board & batten wall I wanted to show you how this wall started out. When we moved in we had this coat closet that you needed to walk around from the front door to get to the next room. We debated a lot on weather or not to remove it. I'm so glad we did! It made a huge impact on how the house flowed. We also took out that adjoining piller. So glad it's gone!

What a mess! Things have to g…

Best Amazon Kitchen Runners

Who doesn't love a pretty kitchen runner? Currently, I have the Lady Bird Runner by My Texas House.  It truly is stunning in person.  I'm someone who likes to change things up and try new runners a couple times a year being that they are budget friendly.  They are also easier to replace because they are small and you have to move furniture around, plus they don't take as much room to store.
Below are a few different runner rug options that I'm loving right now. I also own the buffalo checkered one. I like to use it for the holidays.

1.These spot clean really well. When you need a deeping clean I take mine outside on the driveway and use the pressure washer with a little bit of dish soap.  You can use your hose too. Then I make sure it is lifted off the ground to dry. I normally hang it over our dolly. In the summer it dries within an hour and in the winter about a half a day. It will take forever …

$15 Jumbo Jenga

I just loved this DIY. It was so simple and only took about two hours to make.
1. 4 pieces of 2x3x8 lumber (they are only $2each at Homedpot) 2. This crate from Walmart (mine was $7 in store) 3. Favorite stain (this is mine)-optional

Tools: 1. Table saw or compound miter saw 2. Mouse sander (would take to long to sand by hand) 3. Router with a 1/4" rounded bit  - optional 3. Work gloves 4. Eye protection 5. Pen or pencil 6. Measuring tape 7. 2 lint-free rags or t-shirt scraps for the stain

STEP 1 - supplies/tools

When picking out your boards make sure they are straight. Sometimes you can get a bowed one. We laid out all the supplies and tools in our driveway.

STEP 2-cut

We measured out 7 1/2" for each cut. You need 48 pieces. I don't believe we had any extra wood left over. You should have 12 pieces for each board. 12X4=48

STEP 3-Router

We rounded all the edges with a router but if you don't have one the sander should work. You just don't want rough edges.

Step 4-Sand

Step by Step for DIY (ish) Kitchen Renovation

I'm sure your first question is why this is a DIY(ish) blog post. Well my husband and I DIY'ed everything but the cabinets and the counter tops. I didn't want to be misleading.  Unless your an excellent wood worker and have endless time it would be really hard to make your own. The previous cabinets were garbage and really poor quality so it was in the best interest to buy new for the resale value. I have been dreaming of quartz counters for a long time can't make and install those DIY either, lol.  We also extended the kitchen island into the breakfast nook area and created a desk space as well.  Between the dinning room seating and the seating in the island there was no need for a third space to eat.
